　　專家及相關研究均指出，雖然英語詞彙多達一百萬個，但是外國人在日常生活中所使用的詞彙量，實際上約7,500 個。新版麥克米倫英語學習詞典把這7,500個常用單字以紅色字體及星號等級區分，讓學習英文成為一件輕鬆簡單的事。

　　新版詞典內容擴增許多，其中 “Get it right” ，係針對非母語人士常犯的錯誤及寫作瑕疵提出對比與修改建議，是非常體貼的設計。例如 “right 用在「抽菸的權利」時，應寫為the right of smoking (不是the right to smoke)。還有 “Collocation” ，介紹字詞的搭配，也提供極為豐富的搭配組合實例，可有效提升英文寫作能力。例如： “reason” 形容詞可primary, logical …等搭配；動詞可與outline, provide…等聯用。

　　隨書附送的光碟內，包含所有單字、定義、美式英文發音、英式英文發音、同義及反義詞典，還有Super Search 提供定義詞彙（defining words）、例句，以及片語的搜尋；也提供發音搜尋，能夠以音找字；更包含 “Get it right” 與寫作練習的考題，可驗收學習成效；還提供200多個互動式和相關網站的連結等功能。其中E-lessons網路學習是最便利的學習及英語教學管道，網站中提供教學技巧、每週一字、字彙遊戲、MED雜誌、教學技巧月刊，及其他網站連結。
